Dressy Mountain Women

Proper mountain women aren't always hiking and snowboarding... they are also attending parties, social gatherings, and going to church. And while you could argue that your flannel shirts, and hiking vests could fit in at any social setting... it really isn't proper to show up looking like Annie Oakley, outfitted to blaze a trail up a mountain side.

People are getting casual and sloppy in their dress. Even though you are a woman who spends her time outdoors with your hair up and boots on, you are not excused from taking the time to dress up when you go out.

Proper manners dictate that on special occasions we have a responsibility to meet the general standards of the people who will see us.

That sounds like a strict rule... but, if not followed you can make someone feel embarrassed, uncomfortable, or socially inadequate. As a proper mountain woman, you would never want someone to feel like that. Not to mention that dressing inappropriately (or too casual) can send the wrong message about yourself... for example, showing up to a wedding reception in casual attire, instead of taking the time to dress up, will send the message that either you don't care, or you are ignorant. You want to send the opposite message.

Following proper manners in a society that continues to grow more casual and lazy doesn't mean you lose your individuality and personal expression... in fact, I think it helps your personality shine more, and for you to look confident and with it.

I was talking with Andie about proper mountain women fashion, and asked her what she thought a mountain woman would wear to church... staying properly dressed, but with an outdoorsy flair.

She came up with some ideas, tips and advice for a dressed up mountain woman to share... and I love it:
