CBMWC Part XII: The Ladykillers

The Coen Brothers Movie Watching Club met last night. We watched The Ladykillers...... and I didn't love it. I bet the original is way better, and more enjoyable. This one was too corny for me, and the thing that ruined it for me the most was the band of criminals, I found them annoying - The character Tom Hanks played was obnoxious, and his voice bothered me. All the other criminals were overly stereotyped (if that makes sense) and I found it annoying. I wonder why they did that, I felt like it was unnecessary? I guess you aren't supposed to like them, because you are supposed to be happy when they all end up killing each other in the end. I hate being annoyed by the characters in the movies I'm watching.

So, of course, because I hated all the other characters, I loved the old christian widow and was thrilled how things turned out for her.

It's a clever story, but I think it could have been done better. And that's all I want to say about it.

CBMWC Part XI: Burn After Reading

A couple weeks ago we knocked another Coen Brother off our list, Burn After Reading. We are completely out of order here, folks, and I apologize. I also blame Alger, ever since he started dating this new girl he has become completely worthless in regards to this club.

To understand the order we've gone in, refer to the list below:

Blood Simple  84'                             9
Raising Arizona   87'                         1
Miller's Crossing  90'                         2
Barton Fink  91'                                3
The Hudsucker Proxy  94'                 4
Fargo  96'                                         5
The Bit Lebowski  98'                       6
O Brother, Where Art Thou?  00'      7
The Who Wasn't There  01'              10
Intolerable Cruelty  03'                      8
The Ladykillers  04'
No Country For Old Men  07'
Burn After Reading  08'                    11
A Serious Man  09'
True Grit  10'

Burn After Reading made a jump in the queue big time, I don't know how it happened, but it did. And I think from here on out we should be following the order till the end.

I was excited to watch this movie after I found out the cast of people in it... George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Frances McDormand, etc. And I think for the most part, this movie was pretty good. I liked Brad Pitt's character a ton, even though it was a little over the top - the upbeat gym trainer, chewing gum non-stop, and biking everywhere (I mean, that picture of him posted up above kills me!). And I thought Frances' character was pretty fantastic, a gym trainer who is worried about growing old and being alone, so she turns to plastic surgery and online dating...

I liked the movie, I thought it was clever. I also didn't like the movie because it got a little gruesome, like they all do, and good people end up killing each other. Alger didn't like it all, so there ya go.

MP3s Are My Favorite

I think it is the cutest thing ever getting an MP3 through gmail.

So, McKay and I decided that we are going to start a new little music club where we send each other an MP3 each day and a reason why we are sending it. It's perfect because each day I am in the mood for something else. McKay and I listen to such different stuff, I feel like we will get a lot of variety.

Then I was thinking that we could start a bigger club, with about 6 members. And each person could have a different day of the week to send music.
me = Mondays
Tom = Tuesdays
McKay = Wednesdays
Kaylene = Thursdays
Dad = Fridays
Lily = Saturdays

(or if more people are interested, we can double up on days)

Wouldn't that be a happy little club?
