First Ride of the Season

Happy New Year everyone!

Even though January is half way over, I am still feeling some holiday blues and trying to get into a good productive groove. Christmas was so good, it snowed at our house all day long, we had a fire going all morning, made crepes, went and saw Star Wars, and the full moon that night was magical. We also packed up and went on a fun quiet winter getaway up to Driggs, Idaho and stayed at the cutest Airbnb down the canyon from the Grand Targhee Resort. We drove into Jackson Hole on New Years Eve, and we saw buffalo and 5 moose in the wild! It was a really quiet, beautiful and lazy end to a really busy year. I'm still sad that we are back to the grind.

I also got to go snowboarding for the first time this season... and man, snowboarding is the absolute best. It's such a pure and wonderful feeling. That first run down the mountain makes my heart light and happy, and melts all my adult worries away. It makes you feel things like you did as a child... like an explorer, or a silly goof ball.

And it's so graceful! The turns you make riding a snowboard along mountain ridges and down the valleys lined with pine trees... it makes you feel beautiful and powerful. I think it's the closest we come to flying, and every woman should experience it.

Last night, on a whim, Mike and I drove up to Evanston (across the state line) and back to buy powerball tickets, and the entire drive we talked about how we would spend our billion dollars. I would buy a snow resort and each of my friends and family would get a cabin along runs so we could snowboard in and out of each other's cabin porches. That would be heaven on Earth.

It's a good thing we didn't win though, the hypothetical money was already ruining our marriage because we couldn't decide what to name our jet.

January is Learn to Ski and Snowboard Month, if you have never snowboarded before and are looking for a new hobby... well, there won't ever be one more suitable for a proper mountain woman than riding through the snowy mountains! It takes time to learn and get good at it, but I think that's what makes it so rewarding.

Anyways, there's a quick update from me... I hope you are all doing well, and that your 2016 is off to a good start!

Peace and pine trees,

Whitney Joy
