Julian, CA

(driving to Julian)

When I drove out to see Dan a few weeks ago, we ended up going on a Sunday drive after church up to Julian. Julian is an hour away, and it was sort of an impromptu trip. Impromptu meaning we weren't really sure where we were going, I at least didn't, and before we found the place I thought we were lost forever in the Laguna Mountains, when we got there it was dark & quiet, we had run over a poor mountain dove that didn't fly out of the way, we were starving, and Dan pulled out what he thought was his phone... and had brought the dvr remote control instead. It was awesome.

We decided to eat at the only restaurant still open up there "rongbranch". The food was awesome. Followed up by the best apple pie served a-la-mode, cinnamon flavored ice cream! Then driving back home I gawked at all the sleepy little shops along the road.

So over Labor Day weekend we decided to drive up there again with my mom. And I'm glad we did, that place was hopping in the day light, and they were kick-starting their "harvest" time. I had no clue California had such happy mountain mining towns full of old timey harvest spirit. We ate good bbq on a giant wooden table, carved like a giant bear, and watched all the bikers and people walking around the streets and shops with their apple pie boxes tied up with twine. Pie everywhere!!!

So we bought some too.

We also went into one store, and came out with 30 dollars worth of candy. One of the funnest stores I've been in, with really tasty sauces I want to come back and buy.

I love Julian. So cute. Another thing to add to my list of things to love about California country.

Can't wait to come back in the winter.

  2. I died over the remote. That is hilarious. And I couldn't help it, every time I read "Rongranch" I heard it as "Longranch" with an asian accent... I know, so bad, right?

You are going to have so much fun exploring your new state!! I know, because we have LOVED exploring ours :)
