So after an entire summer of working at Horrocks Engineering and sitting from my cubicle and watching the craziest people ever walk in and out of Tangies Diner, I decided to be crazy myself and join them for lunch.
It was exactly what I had hoped that it would be, well even more than what I had hoped it to be.
I walked in and asked the bar if this was a seat-yourself type deal, and the lady (who I assumed must be Tangie, but then later found out was actually Angie) replied, "well, pretty much, can I poor you some coffee?" The booth tables had a really pretty cowboy boot design fabric and the walls had a lot of native american decor hanging on them. The wallpaper had cowboys and horses.
A sign above the table I chose to sit at read "keep your children SAT down!"
The sign above the restrooms read "SHITR".
I sat in amazement at the people that surrounded me and the conversations I was hearing. Just typical white-trash diner stuff, and really dirty looking people. Where do these people come from? And why do they all know where to meet each other for lunch?
I ordered a patty melt (on wheat because they were out of rye), french fries, and a diet pepsi. The meal of the day was meatloaf served with french fries (because they ran out of mashed potatoes). The french fries were so so nasty.. . but the patty melt was good.
Oh, it was such an awesome experience, I hope to make Tangies a Friday afternoon tradition.
This is making me laugh so hard! I can't believe you went there! Did you go alone? I've tried to call you. You must be mad at me. McKay spoke in my ward, I wanted to say hi but she snuck out. I enjoyed her talk. I can't believe you went there. Steven and I always promised each other we'd go back when it was called Blondie's- than Tangie took over and the dream died. When Nic and I would go on walks by it I'd always say I wanted to go and he vetoed it.
ReplyDeleteYOU. ARE. KIDDING! I have always wanted to go there, but I have never been so brave. Sounds as amazing as I'd hoped and I still long to go there.
