The Coen Brothers Movie Watching Club (CBMWC) took a little haitus - due to holiday festivities and settling into the new year. We didn't miss a week there for a while, and now it's time to start up again. Last night we should have watched "The Man Who Wasn't There" but for the first time since starting this club, Blockbuster let us down and didn't have the movie. So we watched the next one, Intolerable Cruelty... my new favorite movie.
George Clooney's character made me laugh so hard I almost got a charlie horse in my leg! Mike and I had to rewind the movie at the end to watch some of the scenes again, they were that funny and fantastic.
I felt like this movie was a little different then the other Coen Brother films we've seen so far. The same quick witty dialogue was there, and the fascinating characters... but I feel like this movie, more then their others, appeals to a larger spectrum of people. Their other movies tend to be more "cult classic"-esc. I wonder why that is... I guess because it is classified as a romantic comedy, and everyone loves those things.
One of my favorite characters in the movie is the assistant lawyer shown in the last picture with George Clooney. He is an assistant to the most powerful divorce lawyer ever, but loves love so much that he gets choked up and weepy at every wedding he goes to... Mike pointed out that irony to me (Mike is good at noticing things in movies). I just love the relationship between the two of them... it's sort of a Gus/Shawn, Holmes/Watson relationship... which we are all succors for. Probably because we all want someone we can be mean and bossy to, and that will remain by your side and laugh at your jokes.
I really really enjoyed it. New favorite.
