CBMWC Part I: Raising Arizona

(all of a sudden I am part of 3 clubs: a book club, a food club, and a movie club)

So Mike Alger and I started a Coen Brothers Movie Watching Club (C.B.M.W.C.). We are the only ones in the club, and we meet on Wednesdays.

Why C.B.M.W.C.?, you ask. It's as simple as this.... we just want to.

Out of all the Coen Brothers movies I've only seen True Grit and No Country For Old Men, but I was impressed. Those two movies are two of my favorite movies I've seen in the last few years, I just love them. The stories, the characters, the style, the delivery... those two movies are enjoyable. Why I haven't ever made time to watch their other films is a mystery. Well now the time is made.

CBMWC met for the first time two days ago. We decided to start with their 1987, Raising Arizona, and work our way towards their current films.

Needless to say, I thought this movie rocked. I laughed the whole way through. And at the same point in the movie it reminded Mike and I, both, of a Wes Anderson film. It felt Fantastic Mr. Fox-esc. I am pissed I've never seen this movie before. The scene where Holly Hunter breaks down crying in the car "I just love him so much!" was obviously my favorite.

Best club ever.

They got more than they can handle."

  2. Best club ever?! Seriously? What's wrong with our clubs? Am I allowed to be in all three?
